Anambra state Assembly Supports Registration, Licensing of Tourism Enterprises

The Anambra State House of Assembly has granted approval to allow the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Don Onyenji, to exercise functions as stipulated under part III, section 24(6) of the Anambra State Tourism and Hospitality Agency Law, 2016.

The approval came following a report by the House of Assembly Committee on Culture, Tourism and Diaspora, recently.

A letter titled, ‘Re: Anambra State Tourism and Hospitality Agency Law (Law No. 6 of 2016 ) requesting for approval to exercise functions as stipulated under part III section 24 (6) was before now sent to the House of Assembly which was referred to the House Committee on Culture.

The Speaker, Mr. Uchenna Okafor who presided during plenary moved for the resolution of the House on the matter while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice vote.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Sunny Ozobialu had discussed the matter with its members and the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism.

Mr. Ozobialu, however, noted that the said law has not been fully applied, and or neglected, saying that there is need for the Honourable Commissioner to be allowed to perform the said functions as stipulated by the law.

“Part lll, section 24 (6) of the law states, ‘where the Agency fails or neglect to perform its functions as specified under this section, the commissioner with the approval of the House of Assembly, may exercise such functions,’’ he said.
