Premier League: Arsenal Reclaims Lead After Easing Past Chelsea

Arsenal reclaimed its lead at the top of the Premier League on Tuesday after a 3-1 victory against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium, moving two (2) points clear of Manchester City who have played two games less than the Gunners.

Coach Mikel Arteta made three changes to Arsenal’s startling line up that lost 4-1 to City last week, giving forward Leandro Trossard a start in the place of Gabriel Martinelli and handing Jakub Kiwior his first league start in defence ahead of Rob Holding.

In the 18th minute, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard opened the scoring with a brilliant goal after a Granit Xhaka’s pass found the Norwegian. The Arsenal captain then extended the lead for the Gunners when another defence splitting pass by Xhaka found Odegaard to make the scores 2-0.

It was Odegaard’s 14th goal in the Premier League this season as the captain leads by example.

Arsenal weren’t finished with the scoring and three minutes later, Gabriel Jesus made the scores 3-0 after the Brazilian tapped the ball into the net from close range after a goal-mouth scramble.

In the second half, Arsenal created more chances but could not convert as Chelsea looked for a way back into the match.

Chelsea managed to score when Noni Madueke squeezed the ball past Aaron Ramsdale in the 65th minute for his first strike since signing from PSV Eindhoven in January.

It was Chelsea’s second goal in eight games. However, it was only a consolation as the match finished 3-1 in favour of Arsenal.

Arsenal’s first win in five games took them to 78 points, two more than second-placed City (76). Manchester City will have the chance to reclaim top spot when they host West Ham United on Wednesday.
