Nigerian Red Cross Promises Rapid Response To Emergencies

The Nigerian Red Cross Society in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to sustain and deepen all forms of intervention measures aimed at saving lives during emergencies.

Speaking during an event to commemorate World Red Cross Day in Awka, the Chairman of the Society, Prof Peter Katchy expressed their resolve to enhance capacity for disaster preparedness, mitigation and rapid response to the most vulnerable in times of human needs.

“The human needs and vulnerability can be as follows, vehicular accidents, fire disasters, flood disasters, communal conflicts, religious conflicts, reprisal attacks, political violence, kidnap trauma, an outbreak of epidemic diseases, internal displacements and herdsmen invasion.

He sought support and donations from the government and private sector to enable it to perform very vigorously and actively by responding to emergencies with rapid dispatch as the first responder to emergencies.

While describing the Theme for this year’s celebration: “To Highlight The Universal, Human And Diverse Aspects Of The Red Cross Movement” as apt, Emeritus Chairman of the Society, Justice Paul Obidigwe, highlighted the imperative to create an enabling environment to achieve global security and safety.
