African Arm-Wrestling Championship: Lagos Meet To Decide Nigeria’s Representatives
The Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation (NAWF) says it plans to select the country representatives for the 6th African Arm Wrestling Championship in Ghana from the 2023 Arm Wrestling Open Championship in Lagos.
NAWF President, Samuel Jackson, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday. Jackson said that the Lagos Open Championship would hold on June 11th at the Captains Bar in Ilupeju.
“Top winners at the Open Championship will be selected to represent the country at the African Championship in June in Ghana,” Jackson said.
Jackson said that the African Championship in Accra, Ghana would serve as the qualifiers for the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia in October.
“It will also serve as the qualification tournament for the arm wrestling event of the African Games in Accra, Ghana in March, 2024,” Jackson added.
“The invitation has been sent to the Nigerian federation, and signed by the AFA Secretary General, Julien Bounmsong, the African Arm Wrestling Federation.”
“Nigeria must confirm its participation for the African event by May 21, with list of names of the country’s representatives and their individual international passport numbers.”
The NAWF President said that was why all the top Nigerian arm wrestlers both male and female have been invited for the June 11th Open Championship in Lagos.
The 11th edition of the African Championship took place in Lagos in 2022 and was won by Nigeria, while the twelfth edition has been slated to hold in Accra, Ghana from June 21st – 24th, 2023.
