UNDP-GEF to complement government on improved livelihood

The United Nation Development Programme and the Global Environmental Facility (UNDP-GEF) is set to improve nutritional food security in Nigeria through improved gender sensitive programmes.

The Project Manager Resilient Food Security Project, Ms Rhoda Dia said this in Abuja while inaugurating the Executive of the newly formed Gender Sensitive Advocacy Network to foster food security in the country.

Dia disclosed that there was need for the newly elected executives to carry the term of reference to see that it achieves the set goal which is to enhance nutritional food productivity.

She commended members of the group and appealed to them to work wholeheartedly to improve livelihoods of the most vulnerable women, youths and people living with disabilities to give agriculture a voice.

She noted that the UNDP-GEF had worked with various organisations both at the local level and national level , adding that it was willing to work with the newly elected executives to enhance agricultural productivity and food value chains across Nigeria.

According to her, “UNDP-GEF believe that no country can develop without empowering women, the rights of women must be protected to save lives and rebuild livelihood”

The Newly elected President, Hajia Salamatu Garba, Founder, Women Farmers Advanced Network (WOFAN) who spoke on behalf of the Executives, commended UNDP-GEF for the initiative.

She promised to serve in order to ensure that gender related matters in agriculture were well taken care of for adequate food security.

She also promised to work with other stakeholders and partners to ensure the plight of women, youths as regard agriculture were taken care of on resilient food security in Nigeria.able women, youths and people living
