Gombe State sets up committees to establish Training Centres

The Gombe State Government has inaugurated two committees, one on the proposed Citizenship and Leadership Centre and the other on the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre, both in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state.

Inauguration the committees in Gombe, the Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau said the decision to set up the Citizenship and Leadership Centre was borne out of the need to have good and patriotic citizens and leaders.

Similarly, he said the decision to establish the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre was necessary in order to enhance productivity in agriculture because 85% of the society in the state was agriculture driven.

Dr. Jatau said the state government was concerned about the low productivity in agriculture, despite the high percentage of the population’s engagement in agriculture, saying is not encouraging.

He, however, attributed the low yield partly due to a lack of knowledge on the application of modern farming techniques and the unpredictable rainfall witnessed in recent times.

“Informed by the above realities, His Excellency decided to establish these two training centres. It is envisaged that with these centres functional, a lot of our youths and farmers will undergo capacity building that will equip them to effectively serve themselves, the communities, local government area councils, state and the nation,” Dr Jatau said.

He said the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre would be established in Boltongo, while the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre would be in Garin Tafida, all in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Areas.

Dr. Jatau said each of the committees was expected to ensure the immediate take-off of the institutions, suggest the necessary framework for the take-off and any other recommendation they may deem necessary for the smooth commencement of the centres.

The Gombe State Deputy Governor also said the taskforces were expected to assist the state in ensuring the smooth and swift take-off of the centres.

Responding on behalf of the chairmen and members of the two committees, the Chairman of the Taskforce on Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre, Professor Umaru Gurama Abubakar, expressed the gratitude of chairmen and members of the taskforces and appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya For visionary foresight in establishing a committee for the establishment of Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre in Gari Tafida, where farmers would be trained ad retrained to become agricultural Entrepreneurs,” said Professor Abubakar.

He is confident at the calibre of people selected to be in both committees, believing they will do justice to the terms of reference while pledging on behalf of the others to put in their best to justify the confidence placed in them to complete the tasks assigned to them within the specified time
