100 youths in C/River state benefit from animal husbandry programme

The National Agricultural Land Development Agency (NALDA) has Flag off its animal husbandry activities with the empowerment of 100 youth with five rabbits each in Cross Rivers State, Southern Nigeria.

The beneficiaries were presented with four female and one male rabbits, rabbit feeds, drugs and training on handling of the rabbits.

Before the empowerment, the beneficiaries underwent two day capacity training on animal husbandry and financial management.

While addressing the beneficiaries during the ceremony which was held at Ogoja Local Government Area of the state, Prince Paul Ikonne encouraged the beneficiaries to be committed in order to make money from rabbit farming.

“As we in engage you in this lucrative business, we expect total commitment from you, in order to make money from Rabbit farming”

“So on behalf of President Mohamadu Buhari I congratulate you and I welcome you into the national young farmers’ scheme program and I look forward to seeing you becoming a millionaire through this project” he said.

The State Coordinator, Mr. Solomon Ubut, said the people have been empowered with knowledge and residual capacity to handle the rabbits effectively.

He said the Young Farmers were selected from five local government areas of Northern Cross River as a Pilot Project in the State.

He said those selected for the programme must be under the age limit of 18 to 35 to qualify because the program is for the Youths and that these youth must have interest in agric business.

“We have 25 female and 75 males engage in this programme, as you are aware, the Young Farmers Program Initiatives of Mr. President is targeted at empowering over 17,000 Young farmers rearing rabbits across the country”

“This Scheme is to Create Jobs opportunities for our Youths and Reduce Social Vices in the Society and NALDA in collaboration with the State Government is to extend this program to include more youths in the State,” he said.
