The Niger State emergency management agency in North Central Nigeria, has confirmed a boat mishap killing about 12 people in Shiroro local government area of the State.
The boat mishap according to Mallam Ibrahim Inga ,The Director General of the state emergency agency, occurred on Saturday evening .
The sad event according Sule Zumba a resident of Zumba village a neighbouring community who confirmed the incident to Voice Of Nigeria, said the wooden boat was conveying people from a local market when it capsized.
” The boat was over loaded with passengers and other items from a weekly local market in zumba town to lokon tijja village which is roughly 2 hours journey across the river”,added Mal Sule
Sule zumba who further said he couldn’t ascertained the actual number of the passengers onboard , said searching for victims is still ongoing by local divers from within and other neighbouring communities .
Report shows that last year similar accident occurred along river Zuma where scores of people lost their lives .
