A socio-cultural group known as Igbo Congress has reiterated the commitment to partner with and enrich the unity of its members.
The group made the remark during a ceremony organized to honour sons and daughters of Igbo nation appointed into the Governor Ben Ayade led administration in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
The President of the Congress in Cross Rive State, Prince Raymond Atulomah said that as a non-profit organisation aimed at fostering unity among Igbo professionals, the group was determined to rebuild the Igbo nation.
Atulomah said, “I open my hands to welcome all on board and promise to reach out to those not here to join us in the mission to rebuilding Igbo nation. It is my avowed commitment to connect the state congress to our bigger branches in Texas, United States of America to see how we can partner and enrich our socio-cultural existence.”
On behalf of the group, Atulomah commended Governor Ayayde for appointing 8 Igbo sons and daughters into his cabinet and pledged, “this ceremony became necessary at least to say thank you to Governor Ayade for remembering Ndi Igbo and enjoin you to do more as we are solidly behind you in the industrialization of Cross River.”
He advised that awardees to remain worthy ambassadors, “diligent and put the State’s interest far above your personal interest in the discharge of your official duties. Remember that what you do while in office would be used as a yardstick for future appointment.”
In his remarks, one of the awardees and veteran broadcaster, Ugoji Nwabueze, who is also a lecturer of Mass Communication at the Cross River University of Technology, who spoke on behalf of the others expressed gratitude to the congress for the honour, stressing that the award would spur them to do more for the betterment of Igbo people in Cross River.
Earlier, a thanksgiving ceremony held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, IBB WAY Calabar, the officiating priest Reverend Father Richmond Diala charged Christians to imbibe the culture of Thanksgiving as a way to appreciate God for his blessings on humanity.
Present at the ceremony were the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor James Epoke, representatives of Efut Kingdom and a cross section of the academia.
