The Gombe State Ministry of Internal Security and Ethical Orientation has directed security agencies to investigate attacks on Shongom and Filiya Districts of Shongom Local Government Area, where 50 houses have been burnt and one people killed.
Addressing journalists in Gombe shortly after an emergency Security Council Meeting, the Commissioner, Mr. Adamu Kupto, said investigations were needed to punish perpetrators and to serve as a deterrent to others.
On his part, the Gombe State Commissioner of Information, Mr. Julius Ishaya gave the assurances that the council was working to restore peace in the affected areas.
Mr. Ishaya said the council had also directed for the immediate engagement of stakeholders from the affected areas, under the leadership of the traditional ruler of the Kaltungo Chiefdom, Alhaji Sale Muhammad, to find a solution and restore peace to the area.
He said the council reiterated its stands on the ban on militia or hunter groups, alerting security agents to act according, so that anyone found conducting himself in like manner would be dealt with according to the law.
On his part, the Mai of Kaltungo, Alhaji Muhammad gave the assurances that the chiefdom would continue to sensitize its people to on the need to live peace and tolerate one another.
He called on the people in the two districts to keep calm and forget about the incident on Saturday, while pledging to visit the area to ensure the restoration of peace and normalcy.
According to the Kaltungo Monarch, the crisis erupted over a piece of land between the two districts, but called for calm, so that farming activities would take place in the area this rainy season.
