The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has categorically rejected reports alleging internal discord within the party or suggesting that certain members are planning to defect in anticipation of the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Ugochukwu Emeh, the party described such claims as misleading and unfounded.

The LP also debunked speculations surrounding Mr Peter Obi’s political future, reaffirming his commitment to the party and its vision.

“The attention of the Anambra State Labour Party has been drawn to misleading narratives suggesting internal division or that some members are moving to other parties ahead of the November 8th, 2025gubernatorial election.

“We wish to firmly and unequivocally state that there is no division within the Anambra Labour Party. Our party is united, focused, and fully committed to delivering credible leadership and sustainable development to Ndi Anambra,” the statement.

On the issue of Mr Peter Obi’s purported plans to contest the 2027 presidential election on a different platform, the party was unequivocal.

“Our leader, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, remains a loyal and committed member of the Labour Party. In response to recent questions regarding his political plans, Mr Obi clearly stated: ‘I will continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party.”

The party also referenced a statement by the Director of Strategic Communication and Media of the Obedient Movement, Nana Kazaure, who dismissed the speculations as baseless and not reflective of Obi’s political intentions.

The statement went further to caution individuals allegedly pursuing personal ambitions through political defections:

“Those shopping for tickets in other political parties to serve their selfish interests are free to do so—but they must leave the Labour Party and its loyal supporters alone. The Labour Party is not a bargaining chip for personal ambition. It is a movement grounded in service, integrity, and people-first governance.”

The party urged all Obidients, Labour Party members, and well-meaning Ndi Anambra to stay the course, emphasizing that their mission remains just, their direction clear, and their resolve unshakable.

It also used the opportunity to reaffirm confidence in its gubernatorial candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, describing him as a leader with the experience, credibility, and cross-party appeal needed to govern Anambra effectively.

“Labour Party is ready. Ndi Anambra is ready. Victory is assured,” the statement concluded.
