President Tinubu Commissions Karsana Roads, Boosts Housing Access

By Hudu Yakubu Abuja

President Bola Tinubu says his administration is investing hugely in providing access to homes, to work and to a better future in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that his Renewed Hope Agenda had promised.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, made the remarks in Abuja on Friday, while inaugurating the newly constructed 10.5-kilometre road network in Karsana District, Abuja.

He said that the roads which comprise arterial roads N11, N16, N40 and special important local street 03 would link the Renewed Hope City and Estates in Karsana West to the rest of Abuja.

“By linking Karsana West to the Outer Northern Expressway, also known as the Murtala Mohammed Expressway, we have made thousands of affordable housing units accessible, liveable, and safe.

“This is renewed hope on the ground. It means less time in traffic, lower vehicle costs, safer movement at night, and the dignity of arriving at your doorstep without a struggle.

“When I performed the groundbreaking for the 3,112-unit Renewed Hope City here in Karsana, I gave one clear directive: provide the roads, provide the engineering infrastructure, and unlock this district for development.

“Housing without access is a blueprint without a building. For too long, Abuja’s story was “awarded and abandoned”. Today, we are ending that story with roads that open, not ones that stall,” he said.

The president further said, ‘Renewed Hope is not a slogan. It is a method we practise: identify the bottleneck, fund the solution, supervise the work, and finish what we started.

“That method is turning Abuja into a city where infrastructure keeps pace with ambition.”

According to him, when roads arrive before frustration, when lights arrive before fear, when access arrives before excuses, citizens begin to trust that government can work for them.

He commended the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for making it possible for families to drive to their homes that were once inaccessible.

“Wike, you have earned my trust, and you have my commendation,” the president said.

In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike noted that it was obvious during the inauguration of the construction of the 3,112-unit Renewed Hope City that there was no access road to the area.

“There is no road. It was terrible, and I was wondering how people living in the area could access their homes, and we decided we would construct access roads, and today we are inaugurating the roads.

“However, this was feasible because of the support of Mr President,” he said.

He emphasised that no government had invested in infrastructural development in the FCT and its satellite towns the way Tinubu did.

Earlier, FCT Minister of State Dr Mariya Mahmoud had described the commissioning of the access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West District as another major milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mahmoud said the newly completed roads represent far more than physical infrastructure, noting that they are vital pathways to opportunity, economic growth, and improved quality of life for residents.

She stated that the project reflects the federal government’s commitment to building a modern, accessible, and inclusive capital city where no community is left behind in the march of development.

Mahmoud expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what she described as his visionary and purposeful leadership, which continues to drive tangible progress across the country.

According to her, the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda has continued to transform aspirations into visible achievements, especially in the area of infrastructure development.

The Minister of State also paid glowing tribute to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for his bold leadership and unwavering commitment to the rapid development of Abuja.

She noted that under his stewardship, the FCT has witnessed an unprecedented pace of infrastructure delivery, with roads, bridges and other critical projects opening up communities, reconnecting neighbourhoods, and expanding economic opportunities for residents.

While celebrating the successful completion of the access roads, Mahmoud called on residents and stakeholders to take collective ownership of public infrastructure by protecting and preserving it for the benefit of present and future generations.

Earlier, the acting secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Engr Richard Dauda, said that the project was awarded in February 2025.

Dauda explained that the Arterial Road N40 is one of the transverse arterials that traverse Phase 4 of the city, which commences from the Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohammed Expressway), and continues up to its intersection with the Northern Parkway.

He added that Arterial N11 and N16 are longitudinal arterials that traverse several districts in several phases, right from Phase 1 up to Phase 4.
