As the world commemorates the World Day Against Child Labour today, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal for urgent and collective efforts to eliminate child labour across the nation.
In her message commemorating the day, Mrs Tinubu expressed dismay at how children are forced into labour.
She therefore enjoined parents and other adults to ensure that their children are not denied the chance to go to school.
The First Lady advised that every child should be allowed to pursue his or her dreams to be fulfilled and have a bright future.
“Today, we raise our voices for millions of children whose dreams are stolen by the harsh reality of child labour. It is unacceptable that children are still forced to work instead of going to school, pursuing their dreams and learning how to grow into productive members of society,” she said.
The First Lady urged all stakeholders not to relent in discouraging child labour at all times.
“Let us speed up efforts to end child labour in all ramifications by strengthening our laws, supporting families, and investing in quality education for every child.
“I urge us to work towards building a country where every child is free to thrive, dream, and reach their God-given potential. God bless our precious children!” the First Lady added.
The theme for this year’s Day Against Child Labour is, “Let’s Speed Up Efforts! End Child Labour!”
