The Anambra State Governor has awarded contracts worth approximately N10.4 billion for erosion control, flood management, road construction, and other critical infrastructure projects across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, following the 11th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held on Monday at the Government House, Awka, also known as the “Light House.”
According to Mefor, the council deliberated on a broad range of infrastructure and social development initiatives. These include the launch of the Anambra Rebirth Programme, expanded rehabilitation of public schools, and a new policy to train and retrain drivers in the state—part of a broader strategy to improve road safety and driver conduct.
Infrastructure Projects Approved
Dr. Mefor revealed that several contracts were approved after thorough review of submissions from various ministries and state agencies. Key among them are:
N2.1 billion for the construction of internal access roads at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, awarded to Mid-East Construction Company.
N3.5 billion for erosion reclamation and flood control along the Umunze–Umuchu By-Pass, including the construction of a 2.28 km road linking St. Augustine Community Primary School, Rest Assured Hotel, Community High School Umunze, and the Umuchu By-pass. The contract was awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited.
N2.65 billion for the construction of 3.9 km of access roads at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli Campus, awarded to Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd.
N528.6 million for the completion of a Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.
N97.3 million for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road near the old Government House in Awka, allocated to the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA).
N65.7 million for additional works on the Specialist Hospital in Fegge, Onitsha South, also awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.
N55.2 million to the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) for the installation of road signs, speed bumps, flashing caution lights, and other traffic safety measures at various locations, awarded to Vadakris Ltd.
In addition, the Executive Council approved N718.7 million for the reconstruction and renovation of dilapidated academic blocks at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. The contracts were awarded as follows:
Biggstruct Engineering Ltd – N263.8 million
Zonel Projects Ltd – N222.9 million
Euro Energy Resources – N208.5 million
Social Reformation and Educational Investment
Beyond infrastructure, the council reaffirmed its commitment to the Anambra Rebirth Programme—a values-based social reformation initiative aimed at promoting integrity, hard work, and a return to traditional Igbo ethics. Inspired by the proverb “Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanụ mmanụ” (hard work yields success), the programme seeks to reshape public behaviour, especially among youth.
Further, the state is set to rehabilitate more public schools, made possible by the clearance of counterpart funding arrears and anticipated contributions from the Federal Government.
The council also resolved to introduce a driver retraining and education initiative, which will see commercial and private drivers trained and retrained. Persistent offenders of traffic regulations may face blacklisting under the new policy.
