President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs and the inspector general of police to intensify vigilance and take decisive action in apprehending those responsible for the persistent killings in communities across Benue State, in north-central Nigeria.

The President further tasked the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Abubakar, and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, to strengthen and recalibrate their intelligence-gathering frameworks to ensure timely and actionable information that will help bring an end to the violence in the state.

The president conveyed his disappointment regarding the arrest of criminals linked to the clashes in Benue State, stating that he had expected suspects to have been apprehended by now.

How come no arrest is being made? I expect there should have been an arrest of those criminals.

“Police, I hope your men are on alert to listen to information. How come no arrest has been made? I expect there should be an arrest of those criminals,” Tinubu said at the Benue Government House in Makurdi, the capital, during a stakeholders meeting.

“Christopher (the Chief of Defence Staff), you have given much. I watch your comments; you can’t be tired of staying in the bush. Oloyede and the Air Marshal, we thank all of you, but we need to keep our ears to the ground; let’s get those criminals, let’s get them out. DG NIA, DG SSS, retool your information channels and let’s have tangible intelligence so that this will not occur again,” the President ordered.
