The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna, Tijjani Iliyasu, has announced measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion along the Kaduna Bypass Expressway.

In a recent interview at his office, Commander Iliyasu confirmed that efforts are underway to facilitate smoother transportation for both commercial and private road users.

He highlighted that the traffic issues have been exacerbated since construction began on the road, where the construction company advised road users to exercise patience.

Iliyasu noted, “We understand that there is congestion particularly in the Rigasa area due to the ongoing construction on the bypass road, which has necessitated the diversion of traffic to a single lane.”

The Commander explained that the current configuration only allows for one lane of traffic while the construction company works on the opposite lane. He pointed out that the bypass is a crucial route for heavy trucks and tankers, leading to significant traffic due to these larger vehicles occupying more space on the road.

“We recognize that there are numerous vehicles on the route, contributing to the congestion. Therefore, we are implementing new strategies to manage and alleviate the traffic situation,” he stated.

Iliyasu also addressed the issue of road users contributing to the congestion by parking on the available lane, which further hampers the flow of traffic.

He underscored the importance of the Kaduna Bypass as a key passage connecting several northern states, stating, “About eight or more states in Northern Nigeria depend on this route, which naturally increases traffic volume, especially during construction phases.”

To tackle the problem, the FRSC has mobilized additional staff to monitor and manage the traffic more effectively along the Rigasa Kaduna Expressway.

Commander Iliyasu called on road users to assist these efforts by obeying traffic regulations and refraining from reckless parking.

He urged tanker drivers and all road users to remain patient and comply with traffic orders to ensure smooth passage through the area. “By working together, we can significantly reduce congestion and improve road safety for everyone,” he concluded.
