National Unity is Nigeria’s Top Priority – Information Minister

Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister has said that the country’s national unity is the top most priority at the moment.

He disclosed this when the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria paid him a courtesy call on Friday in Lagos.

The Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria tabled the idea of embarking on a national unity project for the country in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Culture using strategic communication, aimed at boosting the country’s national unity. After the presentation, the Minister accepted the idea and pledged to work with the body on the project.

The Minister said there was no better time for Nigeria to be united than now. He said as a country, Nigeria needs to come together as one.

There is nothing more pressing in the country at this point than national unity. Let’s resists the temptation of selfish elites that want us separate. We are far better together. We have our challenges as a nation just like every other nation but we can still fix our problems and the government is doing everything possible to fix our problems.”

He said the passion right now should be about ensuring Nigeria continues to exist as one indivisible entity. It is the only country that we have.”

In his remark, President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria, Steve Baba Eko told the Minister that association enjoyed the tremendous support the Ministry has been giving to the association. He said he level of bilateral relationship the body has with the supervising ministry is unprecedented.

What we have been benefiting from the Ministry and by extension, the government has added value to our work and we feel we ought to do something to give back, and it is against that backdrop that we are working on a project that will enhance national unity in the fabrics of our dear country.”

He said the project will focus on the good things that bind Nigerians together and the country’s positive narratives which are often down played.

Baba Eko also sought for inclusion in the creative industry facilities provided by the government, saying the advert industry is as creative as any other in the value chain. He also sought for inclusion of the advertisement industry in the country’s communication architecture so as to add professional value in it.
