In a major drive to boost local capacity and promote inclusive development, BUA Cement Plc has launched a six-month vocational training programme for sixty youth from host communities in Sokoto State, Northwestern Nigeria.

The initiative aims to equip participants with practical skills in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty machinery, such as excavators and tippers.

Speaking during the official launch ceremony, BUA Cement’s Managing Director/CEO, Engineer Yusuf Binji, represented by Plant Director Aminu Bashir, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainable community development.

He noted that the training includes comprehensive instruction and formal certification, potentially qualifying participants for employment within BUA Cement or in the wider industry.

Represented by the plant director, Aminu Bashir, noted that the graduates are expected to gain employment either with BUA Cement or other organisations of their choice.

“Those opportune to be part of the training organised by the company will receive a monthly allowance of ₦150,000 as part of motivation to achieve the set objectives,” he said.

Binji urged the trainees to use the advantage and enrich themselves with the training for sustainable youth empowerment and development in the state.

In his remarks, the Director of Human Resources, Mr Abdulrasheed Bode, described the initiative as a rare opportunity for participants to acquire valuable skills and secure meaningful employment in today’s competitive job market.

He said the company designed the training to empower youth to become self-reliant and contribute their part in society.

Bode noted that the initiative would go a long way in developing the future of the young generation in the state.

Mr Bode further explained that the participants were carefully selected from six district host communities in Sokoto State.

One of the beneficiaries, Muhammad Bello, expressed gratitude to BUA Cement for what he described as a life-transforming initiative, praising the impact of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts on its host communities.

The Host Community Empowerment Programme is part of BUA Cement’s efforts to give back to its host communities and contribute to the development of local talent.

The programme is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the participants and their communities.
