The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned the reported assault on a female Corps Member, Edema Elohor Jennifer, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, South east Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement by the management of NYSC and made available to journalists in Abuja, Nigeria.
The incident occurred when operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group allegedly stormed a Corps members Lodge in Oba, claiming the facility was being used for illegal activities, an allegation that has not been substantiated.
According to reports, the operatives demanded that all occupants of the lodge submit themselves for a search, during which the visiting Corps Member was assaulted.
NYSC management said the matter has since been reported to the police, with investigations and other necessary actions already underway.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and safety of Corps Members across the country, the NYSC warned that it would not condone any act that threatens the security of its members.
The NYSC also appealed to members of the public to support efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of Corps Members in their various places of primary assignment and host communities.
