The Kano State Government has approved the establishment of a Mobilisation taskforce to ensure maximum participation in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.
The move follows the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the commencement of voter registration across the country.
According to a statement signed by Musa Tanko Muhammad, Press Secretary to the Secretary to Kano State Government (SSG), the Taskforce will be formally inaugurated soon by the SSG and will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya.
The government described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at mobilizing citizens to register and exercise their civic rights.
The Taskforce comprises commissioners, advisers, directors, traditional institutions, political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, student bodies, religious leaders, and representatives of the media, business community, and other stakeholders.
While stressing that the committee is not just an administrative arrangement, the government said it is a decisive step toward strengthening participatory democracy in Kano.
It urged residents, civil society groups, youth, women, political parties, and other stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasising that voter registration is not just a routine activity but a civic responsibility that will shape the future of governance in the state.
