One hundred and nineteen students have graduated with first class from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, UDUS, in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bashir Garba made the announcement while briefing newsmen on the Convocation and 42nd Anniversary ceremony.
He further noted that the 42nd Convocation, has a total of 4,024 graduands and will be conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates, having been found worthy in both learning and character.
“One hundred and twenty (120) will receive Doctoral Degrees (Ph.D.), 323 Master’s Degrees, while 20 will be conferred with postgraduate and 3,561 will be conferred with Bachelor’s Degrees.
“And out of the 3,561 Bachelor’s Degrees graduands, 119 students graduated with First Class Honours.
“Moreover, the best graduating student or rather the valedictorian, as referred to in other climes, of the 2023/2024 academic session will be announced during the Convocation Ceremony,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He explained that in recognition of exceptional contributions to national development and humanity, the University will confer Honorary Degrees on two distinguished personalities, Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), the former Chief of Army Staff, for his service to the nation in ensuring national security and integrity.
“In addition, Emeriti Status would be bestowed on a distinguished retired professor of the University: Professor Dejo Abdulrahman, Professor Emeritus.
“I wish to reiterate that these honours are in recognition of their exceptional contributions to national development and humanity.
“The conferment also reflect the University’s commitment to encourage and recognise service, sacrifice, and scholarship,” he said.
He further said that there will be a special prayer and Quranic recitation, convocation debate, Golden Jubilee cultural display, anniversary/convocation drama, medical outreach to host community, symposium and presentations of compendium, novelty football match, commissioning of projects, public lecture on Role of Women on University Development among others.
The Vice Chancellor added that the main convocation ceremony will hold on Saturday 6th September, 2025.
