Nigeria to improve relations with China in Technology and Transportation

The Nigerian Government has pledged to improve bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China in the area of Technology and Transportation.

The country has also promised to share and preserve cultural commonalities with the Asian nation.

Nigeria’s Minister of information Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed announced this at an award ceremony for China – Africa TV Quiz contest held in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

The Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Ifeoma Adaora said, “China has continued to oil the wheels of the bilateral relationship between the two countries through numerous people to people and cultural orientated activities and programmes even in the face of COVID-19 pandemic”.

He reiterated that, “competitions as the China – Africa TV QUIZ contest stimulates creative minds and have positive multiplier effects of employment generation and poverty reduction.”

Startimes Nigeria has come to be a highly reputable pay TV provider that has been long associated with corporate social responsibility programmes targeted at youths.”

The Chief Executive officer StarTimes Nigeria, Mr. Alex Jian who congratulated the Africa – China TV Quiz winners said, “the contest is not only an interesting knowledge competition that attracted TV viewers from over 20 African countries but also an informative documentary exhibition which tells vivid stories between Chinese and African people.”

The Director General, Nigeria Television Authority, Yakubu Mohammed represented by the Director Programmes, Mr. Wole Coka identified knowlegde as important tool to development as demonstrated through Nigeria and China in StarTimes corporation.

He urged schools to teach students history and geography to enable them know their country better.

The Cultural counsellor from the embassy of the China Mr. Li Xuda said, “as long as China – Nigeria unites and stand shoulder to shoulder, the friendship must reach the shore of win – win cooperation.”

Awards were presented to the winners of the Africa – China TV Quiz competition.

The Africa – China TV Quiz award ceremony was part of activities marking the 100th anniversary of the Communist party of China and the 50th anniversary of China – Nigeria diplomatic and bilateral relations.
