Reps recommits to development of Nigeria Police

The Nigerian House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to the development of the Nigeria Police for efficiency and effectiveness.

The Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, Usman Bello Kumo made this known in Abuja, at a meeting between the committee and the Police Management team.

While stressing the importance of professionalism in securing the nation, Usman Bello Kumo said the committee and the House would continue to collaborate with the Police in line with the 9th Legislative Agenda.

“This 9th Assembly is not only committed, we are resolute in giving Nigeria the best structure that can police this country.

“Looking at the mood of the nation it is pertinent at this point for all of us to come together and cross fertilize ideas, look outside the box and see how to police this country effectively”  Kumo said.

Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba Alkali

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba Alkali had earlier said the interaction would allow both sides to come up with modalities for effective policing of the country as the nation continues to experience security crisis.

The IGP also noted that with the various strategies being put in place by the new police leadership under his watch, the cases of insecurity ravaging the country would soon be history.

Baba Alkali said, “We are here to interact with the chairman and members of the House Committee on Police Affairs. We want to use this interaction to ensure effective policing and better security and movement of all Nigerians. We want to see that Nigerians can close their eyes and sleep. I want to assure the House of a better security management.”

The IG also noted that with the various strategies being put in place by the new police leadership under his watch, the cases of insecurity ravaging the country would soon be history.
