The Kano State Government and the Republic of Guinea Bissau have entered a new phase of bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening ties in agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and human capital development.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sunusi Bature.

The agreement followed a high-level meeting in Bissau, where a delegation from Kano State, led by the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

The team represented the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Both parties reaffirmed their “commitment to deepen cooperation in key sectors that support job creation, youth empowerment, and technical skills development.”

The partnership will feature joint initiatives in GSM phone repairs, fish farming, and the cashew and mango value chain sectors—identified as critical to economic growth and employment generation.

As part of the agreement, the Kano State Government has offered 50 scholarships to citizens of Guinea Bissau to study English and Hausa languages in one of the state-owned tertiary institutions.

The gesture is designed to promote cultural exchange and strengthen historical and linguistic bonds between the two West African partners.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership and pledged to reciprocate the visit soon.

He also announced that his Minister of Defence would lead a government delegation to Kano to explore additional areas of cooperation.

Members of the Kano delegation included Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Hajiya Sadiya Abdu Bichi, Special Adviser on Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Danjuma Zarewa, former Director-General of Urban Beautification; and Hon. Muhammad Sani Gumel.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that promote development, investment, and cultural understanding.

He noted that such collaborations are vital to unlocking Kano’s economic potential
