The announcement was made by the Area Manager of Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria, Firiehiwot Mekonnen, during the official launch of the new flights at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, 28th October 2025.
According to Mekonnen, the new service, ET 957, departs Abuja at 10:00 p.m. and arrives in Addis Ababa at 5:00 a.m., offering passengers improved connection options to major destinations in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.
With this addition, the airline now operates 34 weekly flights between Nigeria and Ethiopia, covering:
-
Lagos – 14 weekly flights,
-
Abuja – 10 weekly flights (seven midday and three evening),
-
Enugu – 3 weekly flights, and
-
Kano – 7 weekly flights.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr Ibrahim Kana, commended the airline for expanding its operations in Nigeria. He described the development as an opportunity to improve air transport links and strengthen ties between the countries.
Dr Kana assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting airlines operating in Nigeria and urged Ethiopian Airlines to continue prioritising the comfort and respect of Nigerian passengers.
Also speaking, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria said the expansion reflects the growing economic activities in Abuja and the increasing demand for international air travel. He noted that the additional flights would support business, tourism and further position Abuja as a key travel hub in West Africa.
The new evening flights are expected to improve seamless travel between Abuja and Addis Ababa, connecting Nigerian travellers to a wider global network more conveniently.
