Anambra Election: INEC Boss Urges Strict Compliance to Rules

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan, has charged all political parties, governorship candidates, and all actors to stick to the rules guiding Saturday’s election.

The chairman dropped the appeal at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, during a stakeholders meeting organized by the commission.

Prof Amupitan, who is having his first taste of election as the chairman, reiterated that INEC was fully ready for the coming election in Anambra.

Giving a detailed rundown of their preparations, the chairman said that the mock election, which was used to test and sharpen their operational readiness, was successfully carried out in 12 polling units in 6 Councils.

The Inspector General of Police, who was represented by his Deputy in charge of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja, DIG Ben Okolo, called for political tolerance and respect for democratic values, and urged candidates, parties, and their supporters to commit genuinely to peace before, during, and after the election.

He charged them to ensure that all voices are heard.

He pointed out that campaigns end on November 6, while the election holds on November 8.

“The poll would hold in the 326 wards of the state, 5718 polling units, 183 split polling units with 6879 active BVAS machines.”

According to him, 24,000 ad hoc personnel went through training on election duties, which will end on Tuesday, 4th November 2025.

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, commended INEC for the meeting, which enabled them to address some concerns bordering on their preparations and operational readiness.

He told journalists that the APC and his campaign team are ready for Saturday’s election.
