Nigerian club Rivers United will face Moroccan giants RS Berkane in the CAF Champions League on Friday.

The second round of Group Stage matches of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup take centre stage this weekend, offering clubs the opportunity to consolidate their positions before the pause for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Matchday 1 produced a compelling start across both competitions. Champions Pyramids and Moroccan giants RS Berkane delivered emphatic three-goal victories to seize early control of Group A in the CAF Champions League, while Al Ahly underlined their pedigree by hitting four against JS Kabylie.

Petro Atlético produced the only away victory of the opening round when they defeated Simba in Dar es Salaam and Espérance were held at home by Stade Malien in a contest that showcased the competitive balance of Group D.

In Group A, Berkane visit Rivers United on Friday, who will be eager to respond after their defeat in Cairo.

Pyramids FC will head to Zambia for a meeting with Power Dynamos on Saturday.

Group B presents a major early test as FAR Rabat host Al Ahly on Friday, with Young Africans travelling to Algeria to face JS Kabylie the same evening after their strong start.

Mamelodi Sundowns, beginning their 11th successive group-stage campaign, continue their push for early control in Group C with a visit to MC Alger on Friday, while Al Hilal travel to DR Congo to meet St Éloi Lupopo on Sunday.

Petro Atlético, the only side with three points in Group D, welcome four-time champions Espérance in one of the marquee fixtures of the round on Saturday as Simba face a difficult trip to Mali to meet Stade Malien in search of their first points the following day.

The CAF Confederation Cup also returns with finely balanced contests across all four groups. Olympique de Safi and USM Alger meet in a top-of-the-table clash in Group A on Friday after both sides recorded opening victories.

Wydad Casablanca travel to Tanzania to face Azam the same day after their commanding Matchday 1 win, while Nairobi United host Maniema Union on Sunday in Kenya’s first-ever home group-stage match in continental club competition.

CR Belouizdad, strong winners in Matchday 1, travel to Congo for a meeting with Otoho d’Oyo on Saturday, while Stellenbosch look to build on their dramatic late victory last time out when they face Singida Black Stars in Tanzania on Sunday.

Group D remains wide open as Al Masry visit ZESCO United on Friday following their win over Kaizer Chiefs, while Zamalek travel to Johannesburg to renew a continental rivalry with Chiefs the following day.

Both competitions will pause after this weekend’s fixtures as attention turns to the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, with the group stages resuming in January 2026.
