The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, in collaboration with SPRiNG Nigeria and Women with disabilities network is convening a one-day Multistakeholder Policy Dialogue in Abuja.

The dialogue is part of activities to mark the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and the Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The event, holding in Abuja and themed “Digital Inclusion, Safety, Access, and Literacy: Amplifying Voices of Women with Disabilities in Peace and Security,” will focus on digital inclusion, online safety, and the participation of women with disabilities in peace and security processes.

It will bring together government officials, security agencies, development partners, and disability advocates to highlight the growing urgency of addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital environment.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, will deliver the keynote address and is expected to formally launch the “Women with Disabilities Network for Peace and Security”, a platform designed to strengthen advocacy, protection, and leadership opportunities for women with disabilities.

Interactive panel discussions on Women, Peace and Security, institutional accountability, and digital safety will feature experts from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Civil Society Organisations, and disability groups.

The conversations will examine strategies for prevention, survivor support, and inclusive digital literacy.

The dialogue will produce an action plan and communique, reinforcing the message that safe and inclusive digital spaces are essential to women’s safety, civic participation, and peacebuilding in the country.

The event aligns with the global theme of the 2025 16 Days of Activism: “End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.

Amina Olubukola Akano-Bello, Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Lead, SPRiNG, Tetra Tech, says:
“Tetra Tech International Development Strengthening Resilience and Peace in Northern Nigeria (SPRiNG), funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is advancing Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion integration in peace, security and justice institutions.”

She explained that the programme is translating Women, Peace and Security (WPS) policies into action in Benue, Plateau, Katsina, and Kaduna States by :

She said; “Promoting women’s participation in peace processes and decision-making, advancing inclusive natural-resource management, strengthening social cohesion and community-based prevention and response to gender-based violence, and mainstreaming climate-resilience actions that protect livelihoods and reduce resource-driven conflict.”

In commemoration of the 2025 16 Days of Activism, SPRiNG is prioritising coordinated multi-sectoral efforts to prevent and end digital violence against women and girls, including women with disabilities.

The programme is intensifying awareness on digital safety, strengthening survivor-centred reporting channels, expanding digital skills for women with disabilities, and influencing policies that address TFGBV.

The dialogue will also spotlight the broader security implications of GBV, noting that “nearly one in three women globally experience abuse,” a burden that weakens families, fuels trauma, and continues to exclude women from leadership and decision-making spaces.
