Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the nation’s Aviation journey has evolved from humble beginnings to global ambitions, noting that the sector has made significant progress.

By 2025, when Nigeria marks 100 years of aviation history, annual industry revenue is projected to reach $2.58 billion by 2029.

The President stated this during the opening ceremony of the Nigerian International Air Show at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President said “the Nigerian Government is investing heavily in infrastructure upgrades across the sector.’

According to him, six major airports are undergoing modernization, and multiple runways are being upgraded, including a ₦712 billion refurbishment of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.

In terms of Passenger Growth, Nigeria handled 15.89 million passengers in 2023, and projections by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority show this will rise to 25.7 million by 2029, with annual revenue expected to reach $2.58 billion,” the President added.

Similarly, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the Air show aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for a modern, safe, secure, and globally competitive aviation industry—one that drives economic growth, enhances national security, supports tourism, and positions Nigeria as Africa’s aviation hub.

He noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aviation has become one of the fastest-advancing sectors, achieving transformative milestones that are reshaping Nigeria’s regional influence.

This Airshow represents more than an event, it is a statement of intent. It is a bold declaration that Nigeria is ready to lead, innovate, and compete on the global stage; it is a platform for discovery, investment, and collaboration.

“Global manufacturers, investors, regulators, airlines, innovators, and aviation enthusiasts gather to explore opportunities, display cutting-edge technology, and shape the future of flight.

“It is also a platform for young Nigerians to see what is possible—to be inspired by aerospace engineering, aviation technology, defence systems, drones, and the limitless universe of opportunities within the sector,” he added.

Vice President of AVIC-KDN Airport Engineering Co. Ltd., Tim Chen, also expressed confidence that Nigeria is on the right path in growing its civil aviation industry.

The Air Show features global aviation experts and investors, alongside exhibitions of aviation facilities and equipment. It commenced on 2 December and is expected to conclude on 4 December 2025.
