President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has pledged his country’s support to Nigeria in the fight against insurgency, assuring that Türkiye stands firmly with Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the pledge on Tuesday during a joint press briefing with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as part of the Nigerian leader’s state visit to Türkiye.

Drawing on Türkiye’s experience in combating terrorism and addressing emerging security threats across Africa, President Erdogan said terrorist organisations operating, particularly in Africa’s Sahel region, pose a serious threat to peace and stability on the continent.

He said that discussions during the bilateral engagements focused on opportunities for closer cooperation in military training and intelligence sharing, noting that Türkiye is prepared to share its significant experience in counter-terrorism operations.

Terrorist organisations emerging, particularly in Africa’s Sahel region, unfortunately, pose a threat to the peace of the entire continent. We stand by the friendly people of Nigeria in their fight against terrorism under the leadership of President Tinubu.

“In fact, today, we addressed opportunities for closer cooperation in the fields of military training and intelligence. We stated that we are ready to share our country’s significant experience in combating terrorism.”

Positive outcomes

President Erdogan further expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon record positive outcomes from meetings scheduled between Nigerian officials and leading Turkish defence industry companies during the state visit.

“Also, I believe that we will soon see positive outcomes from the meetings that Nigerian officials will hold with our leading defence industry companies during this visit.”President Erdogan stated.

In his response, President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the Republic of Türkiye for its openness and willingness to collaborate with Nigeria in advancing global freedom, stability, and prosperity.
