The Nigeria Union of Journalists in Nasarawa State has called on members to always exhibit a high sense of professionalism in their conduct both in public and private.

This was contained in a communique signed and issued by the chairman of the drafting committee member Madaki, and Secretary Isaac Okpoju, at the end of the monthly Congress, which also frowned at the level of harassment journalists faced in the state.

The union Chaired by the Council Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, resolved that, “The Congress condemned the constant harassment of journalists in the course of carrying out their editorial responsibility, insisting that the integrity of journalists must be respected and protected at all costs.”

Governor Abdullahi Sule and his team were appreciated by the congress for the massive infrastructural development across the state during his tenure.

“The Congress also commended the Governor for the relative peace being enjoyed in the state and encouraged him to sustain the peace efforts.”

The need for unity and peace in the state, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic differences were also emphasised by the Congress.

The congress therefore, challenged those aspiring to take over from Governor Sule in 2027 to be ready to build on the foundation so far laid by the governor.

Security agencies were also urged to up their game to address security challenges such as kidnapping and banditry, especially in rural communities, by the congress.
