Akwa Ibom State Governor in South-South Nigeria, Mr Udom Emmanuel has disagreed with the three percent derivation proposal to the oil producing states in Nigeria by the National assembly.

The Governor said the five percent on oil derivation demanded by Southern Governors is not too much considering deplorable conditions of environments by oil explorations in the region.

The Governor stated this during an interaction with the media at the El Amin International School, Minna Niger State Capital on Saturday.

According to him, fishing business in the oil producing areas has been disrupted while farming activities discouraged by oil spillage in their various environment.

Emmanuel said members of the National Assembly have performed their duties and that the Southern Governors cannot take away their function stressing that members of oil communities also have a function to perform for maximum benefits.

The National Assembly recently passed the Petroleum Industry Bill PIB, however some opinion leaders in the oil producing areas of the country  pleaded for the increase of three percent  as proposed by the National assembly to five percent.
