The factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the party’s leadership as a decisive and commendable intervention aimed at restoring stability, order, and constitutional governance within the party.
In a statement issued by Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, the group said the recognition comes at a critical moment in the life of the PDP, especially as preparations begin for the party’s National Convention and the strategic task of positioning the party to field credible candidates for the 2027 general election.
According to the statement, INEC’s action, which follows a Federal High Court judgment, has helped to eliminate lingering uncertainties capable of undermining the party’s organisational processes and overall electoral readiness.
The National Caretaker Working Committee commended the Commission for its steadfast commitment to due process and the rule of law.
The Committee noted that such institutional courage strengthens Nigeria’s democratic framework and reassures party members and supporters that legality, rather than arbitrariness, remains the guiding principle in electoral administration.
“This development should serve as a rallying point for all loyal party faithful,” the statement said. “The time has come to set aside differences, embrace reconciliation, and channel our collective energy toward strengthening the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.”
The faction emphasised that Nigerians continue to look to the PDP for responsible leadership and a credible alternative in the nation’s political landscape, warning that prolonged internal disputes must not be allowed to distract the party from its responsibilities.
The statement further urged stakeholders at all levels of the party to support the recognised leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as it works toward organising a successful national convention, restoring internal cohesion, and laying the groundwork for the emergence of competent candidates capable of carrying the PDP’s banner to victory in the next electoral cycle.
