The Adamawa State Government has commenced the disbursement of N40,000 each to 24,000 girls drawn from the state’s 21 local government areas, under a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme designed to promote girl-child education.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri officially flagged off the exercise at Government Secondary School, Fufore, where he unveiled the education-focused empowerment initiative.

He said the programme was targeted at reducing financial barriers to schooling and expanding opportunities for girls across the state.

According to the governor, each beneficiary will receive N40,000 in the first term, followed by N10,000 in the second and third terms, bringing the total support to N60,000.

He noted that continued participation in the programme is tied to a minimum of 75 per cent school attendance.

Governor Fintiri said the initiative complements the state’s broader investments in education, including the consistent payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for students. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to support girls to realise their academic and career ambitions, including in fields such as medicine, engineering and other professional disciplines.

The governor stated that the programme also accommodates girls who had previously dropped out of school, married girls and those with children, urging them to return to school, complete their secondary education and advance to tertiary institutions.

He further disclosed that the state government has maintained stable tuition fees in tertiary institutions, a decision he said reflects the prevailing economic realities faced by parents and the administration’s commitment to education.

During the visit, Governor Fintiri also inaugurated several projects in Fufore Local Government Area, including a Fresh Air Gate, Legislative Block, PDP Secretariat, Cottage Hospital and Government Lodge.

He said the projects were aimed at strengthening governance, healthcare delivery and infrastructure development in the area.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of Fufore Local Government Area, Mrs. Peace Audu, commended the governor for what she described as people-centred leadership that has continued to drive development at the grassroots.

She said the local council, inspired by the governor’s achievements, had prioritised human capital development through the appointment of over 100 aides across the 11 wards, as well as the empowerment of more than 200 women, youths and persons with special needs.

Mrs. Audu added that the council had also executed several infrastructure projects, including the construction and renovation of palaces, legislative buildings, roads, drainage systems, markets and the installation of solar street lights in various communities.

She said interventions in water supply, education and healthcare had equally been undertaken through the rehabilitation of boreholes, classrooms, schools, health centres and lodges.

Highlight of the event was the commissioning of key projects and the symbolic presentation of dummy cheques to beneficiaries from different schools across the state.
