The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said the party’s recently concluded state congresses across Nigeria were largely peaceful, despite pockets of disputes and legal challenges in some states.
Speaking during a television interview while reviewing the congresses, Morka explained that minor disagreements were expected in a political organisation as large as the APC.
According to him, the party successfully conducted congresses in most states, and the process reflected the strength and internal democratic structure of the ruling party.
“The APC is the largest political party in the country, and possibly on the continent. When you conduct statutory exercises like congresses in such a large system, complaints and disagreements are inevitable,” he said.
He noted that although some party members sought court intervention in a few states, many of the issues arose from internal disagreements over delegate nominations and consensus arrangements.

Mr. Morka explained that in one of the affected states, an interim court injunction was obtained to restrain the conduct of the state congress, but the order was not communicated to party officials or the committee conducting the exercise before the congress took place.
“You can not comply with a court order you are not aware of. At the time the congress was conducted, the order had not been served or communicated to the relevant party officials,” he stated.
He added that the matter is now before the court, and the party would respect the judicial process while seeking a resolution.
The APC spokesman also disclosed that the party suspended congresses in some states where disputes arose in order to allow for internal consultations and conflict resolution.
According to him, the party has strong internal mechanisms to manage disagreements among members.
“One thing that distinguishes the APC is that we take conflict resolution seriously. We understand that people will sometimes be dissatisfied, but we have systems in place to address grievances and ensure unity within the party,” he said.
