Nigeria’s Information Minister Mohammed Idris urges the APC media subcommittee to ensure diligent, transparent coverage of the 2026 National Convention.
The Information Minister gave the charge while inaugurating the committee in Abuja. He also emphasised that the effectiveness of the media team would play a major role in how the convention is perceived by Nigerians and the international community.
“Your role goes beyond publicity; it involves ensuring accurate information dissemination, promoting transparency, coordinating media engagement, and projecting the process and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community,” he stressed.

Idris commended members for accepting to serve on what he described as “a voluntary committee established to facilitate the successful hosting of the convention” and urged them to approach their assignment with dedication, noting that the outcome of the convention would depend largely on the committee’s work.
“This is actually a very voluntary committee. Nobody is going to get paid for it. We are all members of the APC, and whatever we do is designed to ensure the success of the convention that is coming up in a few days from now. As you all know, the Media and Publicity Committee is an important component of the convention. Indeed, the success or otherwise of the convention lies heavily on how prepared and how much we work towards making sure that this has happened,” Idris noted.
Although the Information Minister is currently away on an official assignment, along with some committee members, he assured the team that decisions taken by the committee would be binding on its leadership.
“Whatever you decide there, all of you are worthy members of this committee. And whatever you decide there is going to be binding on all of us, myself and the chairman,” he added.
He also called on members to leverage their professional experience in media and communication to deliver on their responsibilities.
“In today’s fast-paced information environment, the success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public. I encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty,” he said.
Speaking on the responsibilities of the committee, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mr Tunde Raman, said members would handle content creation, media relations, media planning, liaison with other subcommittees, documentation, media monitoring, and coordination of publicity activities for the convention.
It is expected that the committee members will use their expertise and experience to contribute to the successful hosting of the APC’s 2026 national convention.
