Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conferred the title of Ambassador-in-Situ on 19 senior officers of the Nigerian Foreign Service, in recognition of their distinguished service and contributions to the nation’s diplomatic corps.
The investiture ceremony brought together top government officials, public office holders, and other dignitaries.
Presiding over the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, described the conferment as a significant milestone in the professional journey of career diplomats.
He noted that the rank of Ambassador represents not only recognition of excellence and dedication but also a greater responsibility to uphold Nigeria’s image and advance its foreign policy objectives.
The Minister emphasized the need to strengthen professionalism within the diplomatic service, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in appointing Heads of Mission.
The 19 officers elevated to Ambassador-in-Situ were honoured following their promotion to the rank of Deputy Director in the Federal Civil Service.
The Ministry said the development underscores its commitment to merit, institutional excellence, and capacity building within Nigeria’s diplomatic system.

Speaking on behalf of the honourees, Ambassador Suleiman Mohammed Ousman expressed appreciation to the Ministry and the Federal Government for the recognition.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the newly decorated ambassadors to continue serving with professionalism, integrity, and dedication to national interests.
In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, congratulated the recipients and urged them to uphold the highest standards of diplomacy.
He noted that their elevation comes at a critical time in Nigeria’s engagement with the international community and charged them to remain steadfast in promoting the country’s interests globally.
