As Christians around the world mark the Easter season, the Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has called on believers to reflect on the spiritual significance of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection.
“Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, came to teach humanity how to live according to God’s will,” Archbishop Kaigama said. “He showed the love of God, performed acts of good, yet was treated like a criminal and brutally killed. But through His resurrection, He proved that death cannot have the last word. Victory is assured when we align our lives with Christ.”
He noted that the spiritual significance of this celebration remains as powerful as ever. Easter commemorates the ultimate victory of Jesus Christ, who came into the world to teach humanity how to live in accordance with God’s will.

Despite performing countless acts of good, Christ was brutally killed and treated as a criminal. Yet, through His resurrection on the third day, He triumphed over death, sin, and evil, assuring believers that victory is possible when one aligns with Him.
The Archbishop emphasised that Easter offers vital lessons on perseverance and faith. Even in times of hardship, disaster, or injustice, Christians are encouraged to hold firmly to their belief in God. Faith in Christ, he said, provides strength to overcome challenges and to live a life rooted in hope and righteousness.
Highlighting the importance of humility and charity, Archbishop Kaigama called on Nigerians to embrace selflessness and service to others. He noted that Christ’s example, serving His disciples, loving without boundaries, and embracing all, regardless of status, remains a guide for personal and societal transformation.
Archbishop Kaigama concluded by reminding Christians that the victory of Christ is a shared victory. “As we celebrate Easter, let us embrace love, compassion, humility, and service. Let the spirit of Christ inspire us to overcome evil with good, and to transform our families.”
