Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have escalated internal security operations across Jos metropolis, launching coordinated stop-and-search measures as part of a broader push to contain rising tensions and reassert control over key flashpoints.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the exercise was described as a proactive intervention targeting mobility corridors and high-risk zones linked to recent instability.

The intensified presence yielded immediate operational gains, with troops arresting two suspects and recovering a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action weapon, and ammunition during targeted sweeps.

According to the Media Information Officer, the interceptions occurred across strategic locations including Jos North and Jos South, with specific focus on transit routes such as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the state’s low-cost housing estate areas assessed as critical to movement and potential escalation pathways.

In a parallel operation, troops responded to a distress call involving sporadic gunfire at Yelwa Cattle Market in Shendam, where suspected gunmen withdrew under military pressure.

Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh noted that follow-up sweeps led to the evacuation of two injured civilians who sustained gunshot wounds, reinforcing the dual focus on threat neutralisation and civilian protection.

“Security operations are expected to intensify in both scope and frequency as authorities seek to dismantle residual threats and stabilise the environment,” he said.

The Joint Task Force maintains that sustained pressure will continue until full normalcy is restored, with emphasis on intelligence-led operations and visible deterrence across affected communities.
