Nigeria has ratified the convention to regularize the recognition of certificates, diplomas and other educational qualifications across Africa.
The convention was ratified on Wednesday at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who briefed State House correspondents after the meeting, said that Nigeria had already acceded to the convention before the ratification on Wednesday.
“The benefits thereto or as it will accrue to Nigerians will include that almost all the diplomas, certificates and degrees that are awarded in Nigeria can now be used in all other African countries and we recognize their certificates as well,” Nwajiuba said.
He added “there will be an abundance of help with traffic of academics; how researchers can move from one end of the divide to another, use certain kind of facilities and recognize what each other does.”
N1.1billion for Mubi University
Nwajiuba said the cabinet approved the award of contract for the building of two blocks of the Social Science Complex at the Adamawa State University, Mubi for a total sum of N1. 1billion.
“It is a Tetfund allocation that emerged from the year 2017 through to 2021,” he stated.
$125million Global Partnership on Education.
On the $125 million Global Partnership on Education Fund, Mr. Nwajiuba said that it seeks to address gaps in the educational system.
“Therefore, when this money actually arrives, we will be trying to plug gaps in the system. “
He said that there is a different “funding basket” for the safe schools initiative.
The minister also spoke on the insecurity that has led to the abduction of some students by bandits, saying that government was distressed and doing everything to ensure the release of the students.
Power contracts.
The Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who was also at the briefing said that approval was given for the construction of 2 by 60 MVA 132/33 Sub-Station at Gagarawa, Jigawa State.
He said the contract was awarded to Messrs Power Control and Appliances Ltd in the sum N154.2million.
Mamman said approval was also given for the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of 2by 30 MVA 132/33 Sub-station at Ibom, Akwa Ibom State.
He said that contract was in favour of Jamek West African Ltd, in the sum of $6.2million offshore and N1.2billion onshore.
