Nigeria to enhance child-friendly justice system

The Nigerian government says it is dedicated to enhance child-friendly justice system.
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar, Malami disclosed this while inaugurating the Justice for Children Forum and launching of the EU-Unicef Access to Justice Programme for Children on the Move and other Vulnarable children in Nigeria.
While lamenting on the pathetic situation of some children, the Minister said ’’government would do its best in the protection of the rights of children and vulnerable persons in Nigeria’’
He said that millions of children in Africa and around the world have their rights violated, denied access to school, health care, social benefits among others ’’a number of children in Nigeria are survivors of violence including sexual violence but only few cases make it to the courtrooms’’ he said.
Mr. Malami gave assurance that the Nigerian child will benefit from the child-friendly justice sector being initiated.
The Unicef country Representative in Nigeria, Peter Hawkins said the programme  has aligned with the Nigerian government concern about violence against children and to ensure that the justice system act in accordance with the standards  of Unicef.
’’Prioritising investment in the quality of child-friendly services for children in the law enforcement and justice system is crucial,” he said.
The two day event is expected to end on the 6th of August, 2021.
