The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have come and gone and 339 medals were handed out across 33 sports with Team Nigeria placed in 74th on the medals table, while Team USA were the big winners as they finished with the most medals in Japan.
The People’s Republic of China finished second on the medals table, while Japan finished third.
Team Nigeria was placed 74th at the end of the 2020 Tokyo Games on Sunday, finishing eighth best among the 54 African nations at the Games.
Team Nigeria won two medals comprising one silver and one bronze, after being represented by 55 athletes.
Blessing Oborududu won the silver medal from the women’s 68kg wrestling freestyle event, while Ese Brume won the bronze medal from the women’s long jump event.
The Olympics which began on July 23 and ended on Sunday, had 93 of the 206 participating teams making it to the medals table, including 13 of the 54 from Africa.

The Nigerian Olympians made a record 5 finals at the Tokyo Olympics and they also set several new personal best (PB) records in Athletics.
Team Nigeria performed better at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when compared to London 2012 Olympics with zero medal and the Rio 2016 Olympics with one bronze medal.
Nigeria got a Bronze medal in Women’s Long Jump as Ese Brume came third in the event 25 years after Chioma Ajunwa won Gold in at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Nigeria also reached the final of shut put event for the first time in her history with Chukwuebuka Enekwechi representing Team Nigeria in the competition.
