Anambra Assembly to Screen Soludo’s 18 Commissioner Nominees

The Anambra State House of Assembly has scheduled the screening of 18 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo as part of the process to constitute the state’s executive council.

The list, transmitted to the legislature on Tuesday, was received during plenary and referred by Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze to the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters in accordance with legislative procedures.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Clerk of the House Anthony Emeka Ughenu, the Assembly said the nominees would be screened in two batches on May 7 and 8 at the Speaker’s Conference Hall within the Assembly complex.

The first batch, slated for Thursday, includes Eddy Ibuzo (Transport), Offornze Amucheazi (Lands), Ben Chuks Odoemena (Agriculture), Chukwukadibia Okoye (Budget and Economic Planning), Vin Ezeaka (Local Government and Community Affairs), Clem Aguiyi (Environment), Udeoji Amedu (Culture, Entertainment and Tourism), and Okey Ezeobi (Works and Infrastructure).

The second batch, to appear on Friday, comprises Afam Obidike (Health), Law Mefor (Information and Value Reformation), Ekene Ogugua (Education), Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu (Physical Planning and Urban Development), Casmir Chinenye Agummadu (Power), Charles Ofoegbu (Petroleum and Mineral Resources), Esther Chinyere Onyekesi (Women Affairs and Social Development), and Patrick Aghamba, also known as Patrick Agha-Mba (Youth Development and Sports).

Also included in the broader list submitted by the governor but not listed in the two screening batches are Izuchukwu M. Okafor, nominated for the finance portfolio, and Tobechukwu Nweke, nominated as commissioner for justice and Attorney-General.

All nominees are required to present 15 copies each of their academic credentials and curriculum vitae, alongside a completed code of conduct form, as part of the screening process.

Notably, three nominees, Afam Obidike (Health), Law Mefor (Information and Value Reformation), and Patrick Agha-Mba (Youth Development and Sports) — previously served in the same roles during Soludo’s first term and have been reappointed.

The screening is being conducted pursuant to Section 192(2) of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates legislative confirmation of commissioner nominees. The Assembly is expected to conclude the exercise ahead of a plenary vote that would clear the way for the inauguration of the new executive council.
