Prince Adewole Adebayo has emerged as the 2027 Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nigeria.
Prince Adebayo was elected as the sole presidential flagbearer of the party for the 2027 Presidential election during the SDP’s 2026 National Convention and Presidential Primaries on Saturday in Bauchi, the Bauchi State Capital, Northeast Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Edoho James-Nsima, declared Prince Adewole Adebayo as the overall winner at the end of the exercise.
He said that Adebayo was elected and affirmed as the consensus candidate by the delegates from the 36 states across Nigeria and the country’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
James-Nsima said the election was conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, and INEC guidelines on the 2027 general election.

In his acceptance speech, Adebayo promised to ensure a people oriented and inclusive governance for sustainable social and economic development in the country.
He pledged to initiate sound policies and programmes to eradicate poverty, improve security, revive moribund industries, create employment, and enhance access to free, quality education and healthcare services.
Adebayo said the SDP administration would uphold democratic principles to ensure good governance and move the country forward.
He urged opposition political parties to form a common front to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to encourage growth of democratic culture and good governance in Nigeria.
He also lauded Governor Bala Mohammed for his support by providing an enabling environment that facilitated smooth conduct of the party’s conventions and presidential primaries in the state.
Meanwhile, the party also at the national convention elected Professor Sadiq Abubakar-Gombe, as its substantive national chairman, alongside other executive members.
Professor Abubakar-Gombe has been acting as the chairman of the party since 2025.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a political party in Nigeria aiming to provide an alternative to the dominant APC and PDP parties. It emphasizes social democracy, welfare policies, social justice, and economic recovery.
