NEMA DG stressed the importance of continuous technical engagement through a strategic flood early warning platform to support proactive disaster management, anticipatory action, and reduction of the impact of flooding and related hazards across the country.

She further stated that enhanced synergy between NEMA and NIHSA would significantly strengthen national efforts towards promoting risk-informed flood preparedness, improving coordinated response planning, and building resilient communities.

The DG of NEMA also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the agency following the release of the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction and the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook.

She noted that NEMA has continued to engage stakeholders at national and sub-national levels to drive preparedness actions and early mitigation measures in flood-prone communities.

Responding, the Director General of NIHSA, Mr Umar Mohammed, appreciated the visit by the DG of NEMA and reaffirmed NIHSA’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with NEMA through the provision of timely hydrological data and technical support for effective flood forecasting, flood outlook, and dissemination of early warning information.

He emphasised the importance of strengthened institutional collaboration in reducing the impact of flooding and other water-related disasters across vulnerable communities in the country.
