APC Withholds Final Results of Ogun Primaries

By Sekinat Salam, Abeokuta

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says no candidate emerging from its National Assembly primary elections will be officially declared winner until all complaints and appeals arising from the exercise are addressed.

The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Shaibu Philips made the announcement during a press briefing in Abeokuta, the State capital, on Tuesday.

Philips said the committee had completed the collation of results from polling units and constituencies across the state but was still verifying outcomes to ensure compliance with party regulations and Nigeria’s electoral guidelines.

He explained that the committee would not rush to confirm winners until all petitions and disputes linked to the primaries had been resolved.

He however said the exercise was jointly monitored by the party’s National Working Committee and Ogun State leadership to ensure transparency and adherence to established procedures.

“The results collected are currently undergoing verification. Once all complaints and appeals regarding the process have been reviewed, official winners will be announced through the appropriate channels,” Philips said.

The committee has nonetheless released provisional outcomes indicating that Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Salisu Afolabi Shuaib and Mr Jimoh Ojugbele emerged successful in Ogun East, Ogun Central and Ogun West Senatorial Districts, respectively.

Philips clarified that the announcements were based on collated results and should not be interpreted as final declarations, pending the conclusion of the appeal process.

He added that a comprehensive report on the conduct and outcome of the primaries would be submitted to the party’s national leadership before any official confirmation is made.

The APC primaries in Ogun State have generated mixed reactions among aspirants and party supporters, with some alleging irregularities and demanding a review of results in certain constituencies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
