NPFL Hails Clubs, Charges Winners To Represent Nigeria Well

Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, congratulated all the clubs that competed in the just-concluded season, handing a firm charge to the continental flag-bearers to restore the country’s pride on the African stage.

Rangers International emerged champions of the NPFL on the final day of the season, with Rivers United in second while Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), retainedĀ the third spot.

ā€ŽElegbeleye said he considered the season very successful as the clubs played to schedule to ensure that the match fixtures were followed from start to finish.

ā€Žā€I am sending a heartfelt message of congratulations to all the 20 clubs, including those who won tickets to represent Nigeria and those that were unfortunate to be relegated,” Elegbeleye stated.
ā€Ž
ā€Žā€Together, we played to make the season a resounding success by competing till the last day.ā€Ā

ā€ŽHe charged the three clubs that won continental club completion tickets to start earnestly to prepare for the CAF club completions in order to give Nigeria a formidable presence next season.

ā€Žā€The season may have ended, but going to play on the continent means that your preparation starts now,” he said.
ā€Ž
ā€Žā€I charge you to change the narrative of the recent past to give the country a formidable presence again on the African club completions.”

ā€ŽRangers International of Enugu finished top of the table after Match Day 38 with a 2-1 win in Lagos against Ikorodu City. Rivers United finished second as their 3-0 win against Katsina United was not enough to stop Rangers.

A draw or loss for Rangers International meant Rivers could have been handed the title. Rangers United have now equalled Enyimba’s win as the sides with nine (9) league titles to their names.

Ikorodu City’s defeat meant that Shooting Stars retained the third place after losing to Niger Tornadoes. ā€ŽThe three clubs will be joined by the winner of the President Federation Cup to represent the country in CAF club competition later in the year.
