Niger Delta Support group for Buhari has hailed Nigerian leader, President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mr Effiong Akwa Okon as the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC).
The Deputy National Coordinator of the group, Caroline Nagbo made their position known while briefing Journalists on the development in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.
The Deputy National Coordinator of the group stated that the appointment of Sole Administrator of the interim Management Committee of the NDDC by the President was in line with the Act setting up the Commission.
She said that the action of the President was to ensure that there was no leadership vacuum in the NDDC while the Forensic Audit is ongoing.
“Akwa is to assist the Auditors to achieve their aim and it is on record that his tenure will end once the Auditors conclude their assignment and a Report presented to the Federal Executive Council. This is what he deserve is more support to achieve the assignment given to him than condemnations,” she said.
Evangelist Nagbo then cautioned various youths groups in the Niger Delta against unwarranted attack on the President for doing what is inline with an Act setting up the Commission.
Nagbo explained that the group was in support of President Buhari’s policies and programmes geared towards the development of the Niger Delta as well as efforts aimed at tackling challenges confronting the Area.
She enjoined the people of the region to give their unflinching support to the president and the new interim Management Committee of the NDDC under the leadership of Barrister Effiong Akwa Okon in other to reposition the Commission before the appointment of a substantive Board.
While condemning the invasion of the East West road by some youths masquerading as Urhobo Youth protesting the appointment, Nagbo said sponsoring protests against the appointment of Barrister Akwa is not in the interest of the people of the region whose land has been polluted and degraded.
“In any case, Akwa is most qualified to head the commission at this point under the NDDC Act Section 12:1 that there shall be for the commission, a Managing Director who shall be an indigene of Oil producing areas, starting with the members states of the commission with the HIGHEST Production Quantum of oil and shall rotate among member states in the order of production,” she hinted.
Nagbo who explained that the nine Governors and people of the region are in lockstep with the President, appealed to them to allow the Sole Administrator to accomplish the task for which he was appointed by the President.
