A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Giving is Healing Foundation, has partnered with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to combat irregular migration routes.
The founder of the Giving is Healing Foundation, Gbolahan Ayediran, sensitised migrants on the dangers of irregular travel and advised them to obtain the necessary documents before embarking on any journey.
He made the appeal during a sensitisation programme held at Megida Ifelodun Community Development Association, Ayobo, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.
“Get the necessary travelling documents whenever you intend to travel. These documents include visas, international passports, tickets and sometimes yellow cards, depending on the country the person intends to travel to,” Ayediran advised.

He also highlighted some of the risks associated with irregular migration.
“Some of the challenges irregular migrants face include abuse of all kinds, exploitation, discrimination, and forced labour, among others,” he said.

Ayediran noted that many people desire to migrate but often take unsafe routes.
“The reason for this programme is to advise people on how they can migrate the right way. As much as migration is their right, they should do it correctly.” The Founder explained.
He further stressed the importance of proper information about destination countries to ensure informed decision-making.
In the same vein, the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA) of Megida Ifelodun Community, Ayobo, Alimosho Local Government Area, Mathews Amusan, expressed appreciation for the initiative and advised residents to follow legal migration processes.
One of the participants, Kolawole Adenoko, said he learned the importance of migrating legally and the need to educate others about the dangers of irregular migration.
