Anambra Governor Seeks Stronger Women, Youth Involvement in Governance

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo says women and youths remain central to efforts to drive meaningful development in Anambra State and across Nigeria.

Govenror Soludo stated this in Awka, the state capital while addressing women coordinators of the City Boy movement at the Light House, his official residence.

He said “his administration was deliberately working to increase the participation of women and young people in governance, describing their involvement as vital to the state’s future.”

The Governor noted that the activities of the group’s women’s wing were encouraging, adding that their participation had been impressive.

Govenror Soludo urged women to shape their future in line with their vision, stressing his broader agenda focuses on social re-engineering through legal and institutional reforms aimed at promoting prosperity.

He said “political actors must recognise their responsibility in building a better Anambra and Nigeria, adding that the future of coming generations is at stake.”

The Governor also urged the Igbo to be more strategic in future elections, warning against what he described as wasted votes.

He said politics should be approached with intelligence and organised participation, noting that democracy rewards negotiation.

In politics, people do not get what they deserve; they get what they bargain for, and the vote is the main currency,” he said.

Govenror Soludo asked the coordinators to assess their bargaining strength and organise effectively to achieve their goals.

He referenced the 2023 presidential election, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won without substantial support from the South-East, and encouraged the women to mobilise for his second term.

Govenror Soludo pledged his support for the group, saying he would back their initiatives within his capacity.

The Women Coordinator of the Anambra State chapter of the movement, Mrs Adaora Soludo, said the group’s objective is to promote and support the President Tinubu’s administration.

Mrs Soludo said the group serves as a bridge between government and the people, helping to ensure that government policies are understood at the grassroots.

The event was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake; the Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Mrs Amaka Obi; and other dignitaries.
